Boundaries Without Guilt

October 17, 2026 · A Rooted & Rising reflection

A calendar can be full of good things and still leave no room for you to breathe. The problem is not always that a request is unreasonable. Sometimes it is that the request does not fit the time, energy, or responsibility you actually have available.

Start with the facts. What did you agree to? What can you realistically offer? Which part needs to change? A clear response might be, ‘I can help for one hour Saturday, but I cannot take the whole day.’ That gives another person something concrete to understand, even if it is not the answer they hoped for.

Feeling guilty does not automatically tell you whether a boundary is right or wrong. Review the commitment, the effect on others, and your own limits. A boundary should be realistic and safe to carry out. Where there is a risk of retaliation or harm, seek appropriate support rather than treating a direct conversation as a required exercise.

A question to carry with you

What is one limit you can express as a specific offer or a specific no?

You may reflect privately or use a fictional example. Personal disclosure is optional.
